Vivino
I have tried several different wine tracking and research apps, and I must say that I absolutely love Vivino and at the time of writing this I have scanned over 500 wine bottles on the app. In it’s simplest form, Vivino let’s you take a picture of virtually any bottle of wine and immediately get an overall rating for the wine, reviews from other users, and the average retail price. This is great for when you are in a wine shop or grocery store and are not sure what to buy and whether that sale is really a good sale or not. You don’t have to take a picture but also can do a free-form web or mobile search for wines and perhaps my favorite feature is a relatively unknown one…. You can take a picture of any wine list (say at a restaurant) and automatically get an overlay of the ratings of all of the wines on the list. Just a quick click later and you are in the detailed listing of each wine and you can easily see what the mark-up is that a restaurant is charging compared to retail. Beware, this is often a tough pill to swallow. Vivino does a bunch of other great things like allowing you to purchase wines that you are researching, track what you have in your cellar, and much more.
Vivino a restaurant wine list!
In summary - if you haven’t checked out Vivino, go do it today! It’s a free app and the info that you get from taking a picture of a bottle or of a wine list will help you make a smarter purchase!
